Electronic File Transfer (EFT)
Instructions
The Ohio New Hire Reporting Center can receive electronic file transmissions
from a variety of communications software. The new hire data file you are transferring must be
in our required file format. Click here for our file layout. If you have created the file in our
format and are ready to send it, please follow the dial-up instructions below.
The following transfer software can be supported:
ProComm Plus: Commercially available communications product
HyperTerminal: Comes with Windows 95/98; can be found in the "Accessories"
menu, under "Communications".
PC Anywhere: Commercially available communications product. Please call beforehand so we can load PC Anywhere host.
Any transfer software that can emulate a zmodem transmission.
Please call the office before initially sending a file. We need a phone
number and contact name of employers sending files electronically, in case the
file transmission does not work or the file is in the wrong format. After you
have transferred an electronic file successfully a few times, you do not need to
call us each time you send a file.
To Send your File
The Ohio New Hire Reporting Center's data line can receive calls 24 hours a
day, seven days a week.
1. Dial: (614) 221-7540
2. Enter the name and password.
The host will prompt you for a Name and Password. Enter a name (This can be a
company name or the name of the person sending the file-you decide.) You will
need to use the same name for your next transmission, so it may be a good idea to
write it down. You will also have to type in a password. The password will also
be used each time you submit files.
Then the host displays the following menu:
<F>iles |
<U>pload |
<D>ownload |
<H>elp |
<T>ime |
<C>hat |
<R>ead mail |
<L>eave mail |
Fax <B>ack |
Your choice?
Choose U for Upload
3. The host will then display the following menu:
<K>ermit |
<X>Xmodem |
<O>1K-Xmodem |
<E>1K-Xmodem-G |
<Y>Ymodem |
<G>Ymodem-G |
<Z>Zmodem |
<R>Raw ASCII |
<C>Cancel Transfer |
|
Your choice?
Choose Z for Zmodem
4. The Host will then prompt you for a file name.
5. If you are using HyperTerminal, click on Transfer in the Menu
Bar, and
then select Send File. Browse for your file, and then click on the file when you
find it. Click on the send button and the file will be transferred.
If you are using ProComm Plus, the file must be in the upload folder of the
ProComm directory. If the file is in the upload folder, simply type the name as
it appears and press enter. Finish the process by clicking on the upload icon
appearing at the top of the page.
The host will confirm the file transfer by flashing the following message:
FILE TRANSFER COMPLETE.
6. The host will bring you back to the main menu:
<F>iles |
<U>pload |
<D>ownload |
<H>elp |
<T>ime |
<C>hat |
<R>ead mail |
<L>eave mail |
Fax <B>ack |
<G>oodbye |
|
|
Your choice?
- Select U to upload another file
- Select G for goodbye
You can repeat the procedure as many times as necessary if you need to send
multiple files. Please type G for goodbye when exiting so that the host can
properly reset for the next call. An abrupt exit may cause the host to
malfunction during the next call.
File Naming Guidelines
When you are ready to save your file, please name the file with the first
four characters of your company name, plus the day and month you are creating
it. For example:
Acme Incorporated, file created on December 1st- acme1201.txt
Microsoft Corporation, file created February 14th- micr0214.txt
If you are unable to use this naming convention, please name your file as
uniquely as possible. Using 4-8 letters that are an acronym of your company
name, or actually spell your company name is acceptable. If you are sending multiple
files, please provide a unique name for each file. Multiple files with the same name cannot
be processed.
Please do not use "newhire" or any variation of "newhire"
for your file name.
These instructions were created for employers that wish to transfer files
via EFT (host-dial up). We also offer other transmission options, including FTP
and Web-Transfer. If you have any questions about EFT, or need further
assistance with transmitting your file, please contact our office.
